So, Im currently working on some camera projections in Maya 2011, and I have a serious problem.
Im mapping out a bunch of ships on a background and needless to say, it requires alot of alphas due to all the ropes and sails etc.
Anyway, the problem is that the planes I use as meshes, they show through. The alphas in the images will not make it transparent. Ive tried changing formats to TGA, TIFF (with and without LZW), and PNG's and nothing helps. I've also tried NOT having alphas in the pictures and instead loading in a separate alpha as a transparency channel. For this Ive tried everything from JPG to TIFF etc. It just doesnt work.
All this is in mental ray. When I try to do the same in Maya Software, the problem is still there, but the alphas work in some small spots here and there, but the background layer etc is all messed up and cut in half and the image is also blurry in some random spots. Just doesnt make sense to me.
I've also tried subdividing the planes to help it all along but that didnt do it.
Any ideas? Im completely lost on this one, to be honest. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Richard
