Amd Or Pentium?

Hi all, im currently studying a Computer Animation course and im going to get a new computer within the next week or so and im wondering what would be best, AMD or Pentium, anyone got the AMD X2 3800+? if so how is it running for you. I will mostly be using Softimage XSI and other 3d packages. It would also be great if you could post up your system specs. thankyou

I assume you are a poor starving student. go with either AMD X2 or Intel Pentium D. both are dual core and relatively cheap. X2 is faster than Pentium D, but also more expensive. just whatever your personal preference.

minimum requirement:
1gb RAM (prefer 2gb)
80gb - 500gb drive (buy whatever you think you need and double it)
nVidia Quadro video card, minimum FX1300. you can go to FX1400, FX3450, FX4500, depending on your budget.

Just agreeing with william the X2 is really nice.
We bought the 3800 for cheap rendering machines and the 3800 dualcore renders faster than the old opteron with dual processors at same MHz-speed for a lot less money.

Dont have the PentiumD for comparison but the P4 doesnt stand a chance in rendering, then again it should'nt.

If u do mostly modeling the non dual core processors will do just fine since there is no gain from a second (processor or core) exept in rendering. the money saved is better spent on RAM or graphic card in this case.

I recomend Amd 64fx run amazing for the render and amd enter in armony whit nvidia allways, just remember , you ned a good cooler whit amd.
