AMD vs. P$

Thinking of changing my system and this time switching to AMD (mainly due to budget issues). But have some aprehensions due to lack of knowledge.I would be very thankfull if some one answer my these questions:
1. Does all the software run on AMD as smoothly as with Intel prosessor? I mean is there any compatibility issues due to difference in instruction sets?
2 Are there any known issues of using AMD as compared to Intel P4?

nothing thats terribly pertinant to software.

In fact I was quite happy with my AMD system I built some time ago. It was quite the speedy little machine.

Thanks for the reply friend. I hope there is no comaptibility issues with hard ware also, such as GForce card or Soft Quadro.

There are no compatability issues w/ AMD and Maya or any other 3d apps that I know of.

Of course given the recent performance benchmarks of their faster chips you'll end up paying more for a AMD Athlon....my how the times have changed.
