Well, I'm not sure to understand clearly what you need, but if I'm right, here's my tip:
What you could do is create a single wire for the whole animation. To make a part of the wire to appear disconnected, animate an opacity map between the parts. If your wire is in B-Splines or NURBS, it will be easy to make scale the UV opacity texture. So you'll be sure that everything fit when it comes to reunite the wires.
Of course you'll need a lot of resolution in your wire. To animate it, I suggest the use of a long 3D chain.
