Animation Career in 2009?
After graduating college in 2008 with my BFA, I moved out to Cleveland, Ohio; landing a job within the .com world, working for a software company that works closely with GM, FORD, ect.
For the last 14 months I have been working hard on my animation skills; investing roughly 6hr per week training and developing my discipline in digital art and animation. [CLICK FOR MY DEMO REEL]
Over the course of time, Ive seen my knowledge/skill in animation evolve consistently. I love all things digital arts, which makes for a great motivator. Yet, I feel as though I am stuck.
I frequently research and apply for any animation job that I see; but here is the problem; I only apply to maybe four companies a month. I feel restricted on my resources. I would give up everything I own to get begin my career in the animation world. I just do not know how to enter this field or even get my foot in the door and begin a career path.
Being an animator has been my dream every since I was in grade school, and Im slowly seeing this dream drift away. I will never stop trying; I just dont want to let the demands of living force me into a career path I hate, just to pay the bills.
Is there anyone out there who is aware of entry level positions for animators that might be able to tap into? Or possibly some advise on where to look for job postings? I frequently visit Highend3ds job postings, as well as vfxtalk, cgtalk, etc. The only problem with these sites is that they are mostly searches for experienced individuals with 2-3 related experience, and I will lose that fight every time. I could really use some help. I will never give up on my dream, but I feel stuck. Can anyone help me? Thank you for taking the time to read this rambling!
