Another Maya user shifting's question

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd throw a few quick questions in here.

Lighting - the light that's in the explorer by default - what effect does it have on the scene?? should I delete it?

The fresnel effect - what node should I use in the render tree for that?? I used facing ratio in maya...

And the last one is modelling related not rendering and lighting sorry - just saving putting posts everywhere

In maya when I wanted to create lines with sharp corners I would create a cubic EP curve finish it then start another one snapping it's first point to the end of the previous one. I've done all that with no problem in XSI - just what do I do to attach the two curves making them one?

It does have an effect on the lighting in your scene, so the best is probably to delete it when it comes to lighting.

If you mean the view dependent shader node as the sampler info in Maya, the one you are looking for is problably incidence in the illumination menu.

Select one curve. Do Create > Curve > Merge
You'll notice that your curve turned yellow.
Drag a selection rectangle around the point of this curve that you want to be merged with the other curve. The point turns right.

Now click on the second curve (it becomes yellow too). Drag a selection rectangle around the point you want to be merged with the first curve. A new curve is created.

Play with the settings in the ppg. Don't forget to freeze the new curve to break the relationship between it and the former curves.

Personally I don't like the way XSI create the new segment, I strongly suggest that you experiment before doing any serious use of the Merge Curves tool.
