I am learning to program plug-ins for Maya 3.0 using NT and MS Visual C++ 6.0. I have started going through the tutorials in the online documentation that comes with Maya concerning the API, and I am not sure if I am getting the correct results. In the "Hello World" example, (the first example), There is a printf command that is supposed to print "Hello World" in the console window when the plug-in is evoked. I get a "result 1" when I load the plug-in, signifying that the plug-in has been properly loaded, and when I type in the name of the plug-in, which is used as the mel command to evoke the plug-in, I don't get any errors, but I also don't see the expected "Hello World" printed to the console. I am using the script editor command line window to do this. Is there another DOS like window I should be using for this?
Anyway, I have gone on to work with the 3rd example "Helix" and I can get geometry to draw and the variables are working fine as I type them into the command line. So, I know this approach works for testing the plug-ins, but is there an error in the online documentation of the "Hello World" example, and I'm just not seeing it? Or, is there another window that the plug-in is printing "Hellow World" to?
Sorry for the lengthy explination, but I wanted to give as much info as possible to help you understand the issue.
Thanks,
Michael
