Applying a fluid cache to a different size (low res) fluid container

hi,
while applying a fluid cache to a different size (low res) fluid container works the overalll scale of the cache looks off.
Is there anything i am missing or should i not do this at all?
i want to avoid recaching the fluid when i need a low res version.
Somebody has experience doing that?

cacheFileConverter.py and cacheFluidExample.py from the devkit give me stack overlflows in reading when i run them on simple stuff.

Anybody has some docs or insight on the file format?

And yes the ost would be better off in the fluid thread if somebody cares to move it...
