Are Scenes Backward Compatible?

I am having trouble opening a scene done in 7.0. I am on maya 5.0 have had ir for a while but i'm not a maya guy I just got it to do camera tweeks on projects i get from time to time... so my question would be how to open a 7.0 scene in 5.0?

mayas not backwards compatible, but a scena may in some cases work backward oviously any new feature used ill not work.

So save the file as ma (yes thats the ascii format not binary), and edit the header lines witha text editor. you may bget lucky.

but just remeber maya 5 is 3 versions older than maya 7 so a lot has chabged
