Please excuse my ignorance, I am new to this list. I would like to know if an Athlon processor would be suitable for running Maya 2.5?
Thank you
hi sarah,
a close colleague of mine is running Maya 2.5 Unlimited on a 512Mb RAM 1.2GHz AMD Athlon, and to answer your Q-yes it is the perfect choice (it exceeds the P4 1.5GHz on most benchmark tests). it's AMD mmx extensions +++ is the most appropriate choice for high-end 3D platforms. We are all Athlon cpu fans (excuse the pun) here
I don't know what this going on about AMD mmx extensions is all about, but the AMD chip has the fastest floating point math unit of any of the x86 processors, which gives superior rendering times.

AMD chips are great for ANY 3d app. THe only advantage Intel has leftis the Dual mobo configurations. Hopefully AMD will have dual mobosometime this summer or by christmas.

.. or when they can show a performance improvement with DDR... which we are all going to have to switch to to use dual processor Athlon systems..
The 760MP is DDR-only right now, from what I've heard.
