Athlon XP in MPS?

Can anyone confirm if XPs can in fact be used in Athlon MP systems? I am purchasing a dual, my vendor only has 1800+MPs and I would like to use the 2000+XPs if I can without any loss of performance or stability?

Any ideas, links, etc. much appreciated.

nope.,.ina dual motherbaord you can use ONE xp or two MPs. that everyone has told me and most manufactures post that with their boards.
beleive me ..dual 1.8 gig chips will have you rendeering faster than one 2 gig XP anyday.

I do know when the first tyan tiger was released; tomshardware guide did a test with a pair of athlonMP's and a pair of athlon Thunderbirds. BOth worked fine in pairs.
Its possible the athlonXP will work in pairs as well; you just don't have AMD's blessing. Beside sthe athlonMP is a slightly more powerful chip.

I've heard of people unlocking XP's, but that's accompanied by instability. Not sure that the price diff is worth the risk.

These guys have 1900 MP's, but they're price quotes are too high (at least online, maybe they'll deal in person).

Yeah I'd prefer the MP myself anyway.

I have been doing the same research because im planning on going with the dual setup and id like the 2000's
if you get the tyan t7 dual processor motherboard the xp chips will work in it
AS LONG as they are the same model and from the same bin
meanily that they were numebr very closely
this is what many different professionals have expressed to be and i completely beleive it and that is what im going to do when i order

I've said it once; I'll say it again.
Tyan is attrocious. Go with the Asus, Gigabyte, or MSI dual athlon board. Tyans quality has much to be desired; having gone through 3 of their boards before finally coming to the conclusion that they aren't very upgrade friendly. I'd assume since its your graphics workstation you want to put at least a geforce3 in it. Well so far none of our tyan boards work with them; and forget about help from their support.

thats why they are usaly first on the market , they never bother with a testing period.
Asus has been working on that board for almsot a year I think.

Amazing how MSI had an nforce board on the market first; yet I haven't had a lick of trouble with it. A dandy game machine to say the least..I might go with them for my workstation board too. theirs; Asus; and I think gigabytes all have support for AGP pro; tyan does not.
