Hi Im just learning and have enjoyed reading all the posts.
I am building my first 3d box and am on a very tight b.
Athlon900, SMC Mb, 256MbRam, 32mbGeForce2MX, ATXcase, 19"Samcor, $2559inclGST NewZealand
Any mistakes I gots to have the 19"$750 or would a flat 17"$520 be better? and GTS$529 instead of MX$300?
Hey man, I bought the hercules MX recently and haven't found any disfunctionalities except for painteffects, then again which card does run PE well?
I think youre better off going with MX now cause nvidia is about to release the nv20 chipset (newer better etc...) and will release a new chipset every 6 months. If you have some patience that can save you many dollars.
I also think your better of with a nineteen inch (unless it doesn't support 1280*1024 at 75 hrz at least, else your eyes'll go screwey on you).
Cheers, Maos
for the price def between the 900 and 1ghz I would get the 1ghz in you config

Im going for Triple boot probably use NT4 sp6a
Ive been tripling for a while now studying MCSE 95, NT4, 2Kpro, This time 98, NT4, 2K Server,
Learning Maya 3. Advice has been go with P3, but I'm curious at Athlon performance in kicking Butt, so hopefully vid card drivers up to scratch.
Ive seen some con fig questions for NT4 no expert but will try to help.
I build fat16 front end if your machine wont partition try upgrading bios get a shop to do it if they screw it you may have a comeback.
Disable memory dump unless your having problems.
Set swap file as 2.5 x ram if your running 1 HDD place
on boot partition. NT4 crashes if it hasn't got at least 50mb of swap in boot partition.
If your running 2HDD then put swap on second drive 2.5 x Ram.
You can get a shareware defrag for NT4 called Disk Keeper Lite, it works great. when defragging Boot and Swap move swap off boot onto another partition and then defrag boot and then return swap.
I know of 1 operater that runs scsi swap but i dont know how if any one can tell me i would love to know.
Grab a Duron 700, an Asus A7V133 motherboard, and a good quality heatsink. That's 931MHz with the 133 bus.. and from what I've read on Tom's, etc., EVERY Duron is capable of 1GHz (it you want to play with the clock multiplier)
