Okay, this is truly a most likely impossible wish ever.
I wish that maya could have an audio interface for making movies in which you can give audio properties to each material node (the equivelant to shadows would be not being able to hear something if it's in your way--- equivilant to reflection would be echo) and all materials would echo differently and have different acoustical properties.
When it comes time to render, you can render your visual part, then just like it, render the audio part which would probably have a long render time as well.
Working with surround sound based off of guessing is pretty hard so this would be a great help and a hell of alot of fun.
Acoustic properties are dependant not only on material but also on geometry of surface ( per-object basis ). Very idea sounds great, but it sound more like stand-alone utility, than part of Maya.
Unfortunately Maya is weak at audio. My lame wish(1) is to have access to audio waveform ( especially exact ranges of frequencies ) like it is done in AfterFX's filter audioSpectrum. I know there's some plugin for getting amplitude of waveform, but that's not enough for animation e.g. 3DaudioEqualiser, bunch of blendshapes or textures. Another wish(2) is to have waveForm nonLinear deformer. Or.. to be more exact - deformer that could be fed by wish(1) or any other data, e.g. ramp. Coulde bes useful as multiplier for other nonLinears. Do I sound stupid?
Hmm well its not alias core area for sure. But yes some such renderers do exist. Just that this sound rtracing thing is a hugely slow process because they have yet to develop a good way to multiprocess it (wich means it allways needs to be calculated by one machine and all frames from start to end, wich meaks it a bit inpractical at the moment).
