Audio crash Maya at end of play

Hi,

I'm having this problem with my audio file. The audio is a wave file (16bit 44.1 khz) as standard. When I play till the end(normal frame rate), it hangs there. I could not press the stop button or esc. Eventually, I ended up killing the task and restarting Maya again. I can stop the playback in the middle but not when it goes near the end.
Strange thing is that when I bring the wave file into a program like Sound Forge or Windows media player, there's no problem in the playback.
Please help on this one. Thanks in advance!

Well 16 bit at 44.1 is a ram killer no matter how you look at it . But , Maya doesn't seem to work well with 16 bit audio anyway . Use 8 bit audio as your template when working with maya and bring down you samlpe rate to around the 22 or lower so you're using your ram for maya and not to cache the audio . I wouldn't think you need cd quality audio to sinc up your animation . Theres an app on this site that will show your ram usage with win NT , get that and try to run that honk'en 16 bit 44.1 audio file with Maya and watch your ram flatline. Note: if you're running Maya at its minium of 256 megs of ram then maya will use 40 to 60 %+ just to open itself up. Very different from Sound Forge .

Are you sure about that? I think Maya surely accept 16 bit 44.1khz sound files. The playback is okay except towards the end of the timeline - it crashes. Even with animation in the scene. It doesn't matter where I adjust the length of the timeline. One second before it reaches the end, bang. The audio at the last 30 frames or so doesn't sound as well.
It's surely some kinda bug or there's a problem with the sound card. Btw, I'm using Sound Blaster AWE64 with the latest sound drivers. I hope that's not really the problem.
I'd be very grateful if anyone can help me troubleshoot this one as I rely heavily with the soundtrack for the animation.

it will accpet it fine , sure ...it doesn't like it..it likes 8 bit . And whatever man , that sound file is a major ram killer especally with maya open and running it . But hey , if you prove me wronge and thats not it a t all then post it . Try to bring it down to a lower level and see if it works . I bet it will work a lot better .

I've tried bringing down to 8bit 22 khz and it still crashes. There are no audio two seconds before it crashes. Very wierd. The file size of the sound clip is very small. I suspect it may be something to do with the sound card. I heard that Maya doesn't support the latest sound card from creative.
Overall, playback is okay except towards the end of the timeline - it crashes. With or without aniamtion or particles. The scene may be empty and the same thing still happens. I'm really at my wits end. Dunno what to do. Please help out!

mmm, well i never heard of that problem before with a card .Does it crash in the same spot evrytime? Is this the first time you've used this card with Maya or is this the first time you've had problems ? Still sounds like a ram cache issue , but may be wronge . I know maya likes 8 bit sound much better than 16 , 16 will make it crash a lot .
How much ram are you running ?

It doesn't matter where my timeline is (short or long). It just crashes towards the end. I can have nothing in the scene, just the sound clip. Even if the clip is only 1mb, it still crash at the end of the timeline. How do you reckon this glitch?

is it just that sound file or any sound file? .....its an odd problem . Have you always used this sound card? or it is a new edition ?
