Avi/quicktime's on "image planes"

Hi,

i'm wanting to use an avi or quicktime as reference in the background.. i've tried using image planes with no luck.. does anyone know a workaround? or why this isnt working.

I tired to get this to work and it crashed Maya. You need to use the movie node instead of a file node. In either case you should use and uncopressed codec for the movie. In general it is a bad idea to use movies.. you should an image sequence. They are many problems that you may encounter using movies for textures or output.

If you need info on using image sequences do a search for image sequence.

on the Alias website there is a tutorial onhow to set up a file texture with an aniamted sequence of pictures , not a quicktinme movie soue , it won;'t work correctly and the animated seq. wil work , or at lest if you have a good amount of ram it will. 512 or more couse those images seem to stick in your ram.

Go into your cam attrib. editor, environment, image, go get your movie. I know it doesn't make sense but turn on use frame extension. Key it at one. Now set your animation to the end of the time slider(or wherever you want it to be to match the avi) go get the movie again. (Don't know if you have to do that) change frame extension number to that number and key it again. I'm not saying if you hit the play button it will play smoothly, more like as you click through frame by frame you will see it change. So if you're trying to match your animation to an avi, this will work.
