Beginner: Uni Project. Timeframe. Interactivity

Hi guys,

Roughly how long do you think it would take a beginner to learn and create a 2 minute 3D animation sequence in 3D Studio Max? It is for a college/university project but it needs to be done very well with interactivity too (such as user control, user imput etc). I would like to import it into Director (or openGL)so that I can embed it onto my website as a shockwave file...would this be easy to do?

Or do you think its too much to learn in a short period of time....? I've dabbled in 3D Studio Max and i luv it! lol. I've also used Director for animation before.

(Also, please state any other ways to add interactivity to my animation and other programs to import it to so I can embed online...)

Id say 3-12 months if you have a good teacher. Just making a good 1 miunte animation thats non interactive useually takes from 2 weeks to 1 month for a single person. Ofcourse it depends on whats Good (if its aopening door then a week, if its a talking human closer to a year or 2). 2 minutes is a lot of time for animation.

Thank you for your reply. Gosh, i dont really have a whole year for the project. between 6-8 months really. ok 30 -60 secs of animation...its mainly gona be stuff like rotating objects and stuff. Something like dis:

Well the firts does not need max and does indeed not benefit from max much , im on the run dont have time for the others, the mizubishsi one is quite complex offcourse all in all and i di dinthave time to watch it all trough but certainly not cheap.

Well used to use max for 4 years, piror to that 3dstudio (plain) for abot another 3, nowadays i prefer to use maya or houdini if i can choose the platform. Does not mean max is bad they just suit my mindset better.

All in all ive done 3d for more than half my life, and graphics even longer started as a 9 year old to make animations. thats more then 20 years ago.
