Hello there,
I am quite new to Maya, as I have just started using it in a university project.
My question is... I am trying to model a membrane,
something elastic like thin balloon rubber or the material that womens tights (im not sure what they're called in america... perhaps hose? panthose?)
Well I have started by trying to use the soft modification tool, which was creating some interesting results, but i don't really think it accurately models the behaviour that a stretched membrane has under tension.
The soft modification tool has a tendency to create blobs, but what i'm really looking for is the effect that you would get if you were to pinch the material and pull it..... it would resist and create a thorn shape rather than a blob.
I have completed the tablecloth tutorial from
http://caad.arch.ethz.ch/info/maya/manual/...leCloth.fm.html
but my aim is not to drape... but to hold the membrane in place, similair to the way that a drum skin is held,
and then pinch & push the membrane using the collision objects.
Is this possible?
If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be grateful.
I have created some real models of the stretched membrane, which you can see at

they're in the march archives.
thankyou
