I am looking for the best system to run maya for the most reasonable price (preferably the cheapest). I know the question is rather generic but I am just getting started and my knowledge lies in traditional animation instead of computer hardware. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
depends on how much your willing to spend... but I`d recommend a machine with the following if your just starting out.
Athlon XP 1800 or higherRAM: 512MB or higherVideo Card: Geforce 4 Ti4400 or higher... (never get an MX)Hard Drive: 40GBs or higher
You could get the above very cheap... from either www.micropro.com or www.accessmicro.com IMHO its better just to get something that will get you by for a year or more whilst your learning...
I'd go with www.micropro.com I haven't bought from acessmicro but some of their policies seem questionable and they seem to overcharge for shipping.
Ti 4200 is good enough. And CPU could be a bit faster , 2100+. QtNFlufy is spot on. Should be dirt cheap these days ($700?). Make sure to get brand name RAM.
You could also get a pentium-based system from, like, Dell really cheap. Make sure to put a Ti card in it. No upgrade potential, though.
