best system?

I've been looking at various systems. I'm thinking of trying to go as top end as possible. I want great stability and good speed. I figure people here must be upgrading to new cards and systems all the time and may perhaps have some insights and ideas to pass on to me.

The basics of what I'm looking at right now is 2gigs of 400mhrz ram, dual xeons, and a geforce quadro fx. it seems like overkill right now but it should be able to stand up to years of use right? without becoming too outdated?

I dunno if any of this is wise. Sometimes going for the biggest fastest most hyped stuff is not always the smartest thing to do as they can be wrought full of compatability problems and so on.

anyway, just wondering what people here thought would be the best new system to put together for doing professional work.

Well as far as I know your dream systems will be perfect for XSI. The only serious consideration when it comes to hardware and XSI is Radeon cards, wich are notoriously harmful. Dual processor is a huge benefit with mental ray, as my tests showed that a second processor reduces render time by almost 50% on most renders.
