Binary File Parse Error: (5) Bad Block

I was working on a modeling project and saving every ten to fifteen minutes when all of a sudden, while cylindrical mapping, Maya just simply closes. When I opened Maya back up and tried to open the scene, I got a message that read, "Errors have occured while reading this scene that may result in data loss. Please check the Script Editor for details." When I checked the Script Editor, it read "Maya binary file parse error: (5) bad block." Is there anything I can do to recover the scene or will I have to start all over?

Yes load one of those incremental saves you did (you do have the incremental save option on dont you? If not turn it on NOW).

Its better to use maya ascii format as long as you edit things for many reasons such as this.

Also maya might have tried to do a crash recovery file in yourtemp directory.

Unless you just happened to save whan it crashed then i suggest you do a disk chek too.. as your disk might have a problem of sme sorts.

Again a good reason to have a redundant disk system.
