Hi all. I tried to search and find an answer to this with no luck. Using Maya 4.5 I loaded a full-body human mesh that I downloaded from the 'net. I then followed the "Instant Maya" tutorials for creating joints/bones, parenting them, etc... followed the instructions for selecting my mesh and the root joint (which selected the entire bone system) and then did the Skin > Bind Skin > Smooth Bind (the skin turned purple when I did this, indicating that it supposedly worked). Here's the problem: I want to use FK to rotate the shoulder joint to get the arms straight out to the sides, so I select the shoulder joint, select the rotate tool, and when I rotate just the bones move, not the mesh (like it's not bound). Same thing if I add IK handles to the tips of the hands or toes and try to move them. If I try to Bind Skin again it says it's already bound. The TUT just says to bind skin then go ahead and pose your model. What am I missing? Something stupid probably...I realize. I don't usually work with bones/posing at all, but I need to move this mesh's arms from her sides to straight out w/o ruining the polygon structure. Any suggestions?
