blood shader

good day!
has anyone ever tried making a blood shader...???
not one that creates blood cells but one that makes a surface look like it was smeared with blood (realisticly). any good advice or hints about where to find information on this would be greatly apreciated.

Well, you could always smear some substance on some paper, scan the result (or take a picture, so you don't ruin your scanner), then color it read and use the greyscale for a displacement map.

actually i tried that... first spillling thick coffee and then using ketchup... but it seems that the shape is only part of the problem. the way the surface bends (geometry, bump, displacement) seems to be another key issue. it looks good when the camera is close, but when the camera goes further away, it turns all dry and boring...

Go buy real pigs blood from the store.... You can get it quite easily.
