Hey guys, Sorry to bother you, Im pretty new to 3D modelling. Very new. And im trying to build the best portfolio I can for the end of year 12 to get a scholarship. Im building this female character model now and its killing me. Im following a tutorial on the internet "Game Character Design" or something which left me where i am now. Stuck and confused. I have created this female character, i've nearly finished the modelling, all i need to do is mirror it, and smooth it. When i do so, the forehead of the character comes out all screwed up because a border edge (which i cant explain why it is there) is on the gap between the hair and the characters forehead, so when i smooth the model, it becomes a hard edge and the character looks like a freak of nature.
please help me as i want to start texturing and rigging the model as soon as possible. - (ok i want to start ATTEMPTING to texture and rig the model).
This is the smoothed model with the red line indicating the freakish look of model and the damge of the Border Edge of doom.
PLEASE!!! GOD OF MAYA!!! (or Guru) help me out as I definitely do not wanna have to do the hair all again (it killed me) and i want this problem solved!!
Well if your problem is to get rid of the hard edge then add more edge loops in that location before smoothing. But of this is a game character then it all ok because in-game models look different then the ones in maya's viewport, especialy with the textures and normal maps on.
yea i know that, but border edges are undeleteable. The only way i can delete them is by deleting the 2 faces its on. but then when i merge the nearby vertices to recreate the face, the border edge reappears! its like its haunting me. i think i did the whole hair style wrong. Great... Can Anybody Help!?!
Wowa, wen i merge the vertices the border edge reappears! but wats this about smoothing border edges? how do u do that!?! i cant seem to find the option to do that!!
its not that i reli want to, but its not like anyfin useful came out of this thread. i mean i still havent solved my problem to date. i did it completely differently, a method i wasnt supposed to do. meh, as long as i got a good effect im happy.
