More compatibility between pro applications in the 2D and 3D would be certainly a welcome trend. Unfortunately standardisation is something that usually takes place once the development reaches towards the limits of the technology and starts to slow down.
I personally doubt that something like that is going to happen any soon here, as the CG field development is currently on its humble beginnings.
Nevertheless, if you have got any idea regarding how any of the Maxon's products could be enhanced, I suggest to tell them directly by using the Suggestion Form on their site. If lots of people comes up with a viable and good idea I have no doubt it will appear in one of the next releases.
As for the Evildesk buying competition and trying to create a monopoly - imho they are effectively cutting off the branch they are sitting on. I wouldn't worry about the prospect of them getting hold of Cinema 4D as well, as the Maxon firm is owned by the worlds's second largest CAD gigant, the Nemetschek...
