Cache, Crash And Customising

Guys new to Shake. Have worked through Apple training Material and now the challenge begins problem solving with real projects.

Cache: The Manual talks about optimizing the system by editing the cache.cacheMemory. I am unclear what file this refers to. Reading through some threads I found the 'Shake Configurator V1.1 tool'. This seems to offer the controls I wish to change but before executing the programme I want to understand better what it is altering. Also, when I run this app it says "Memory size (RAM) of your system 2,049 MB." I have 4.5 gb of RAM installed on this machine why does it display a difference?

My system Specs are: Powermac G5 2.3 ghz 4.5gb working mostly with HD Pal 25fps.

Crash: Everytime I access the help files through the Shake interface the system unexpectedly quits. Any thoughts? It's a pain to have to navigate through the folders to find the info I wish to refer to.

Customising: I have been using quickpaint to clean up plates; I have been using my tablet for speed and I wonder if there is a way of programming keystrokes to operate functions, namely the soft edge brush to hard edge brush? It would speed things up if I could.

Cache: Shake configurator will simply write a bunch of code to a whatever.h file, this is a text file with a .h extension so shake recognises it. This code will be read on startup as long as you put it in your $HOME/nreal/include/startup directory. Shake configrator probably only sees the first 2Gig of RAM because shake cant use more than that being a 32Bit application. Dont worry though, the other 2.5Gig will be very useful for flipbooks which run as a separate application.

Crash: Are you talking about the PDF manual through the help menu or the HTML help pages accessed through the little help button in the top right corner of the parameters?

Customising: F9 will toggle between the last brush used and the current brush. F11 toggles between hard and soft brushes.

Thanks for your reply. You've jogged my memeory with regards to the F9 key, seem to remember coming across that. Probably being lazy and not referring to the manual.

I dont have an include/startup directory. The directory structure is as follows $Home/Users/computer'sname/nreal then three folders autosave, settings and tutorial media.
I assume the obvious location for the generated .h file is the settings folder or have I somehow misplaced this directory?

The crash occurs with both. Accessing the pdf through the Help pulldown and the html from the help icons of the parameters. I should add this is shake 4.0 and the location of the help files is in doc folder of the application folder.

Any further help is most appreciated.

In Users/computer'sname/nreal, add the following directory structure

1) include/startup/ui
2) icons

put the code in include/startup
