Call imf_copy from maya python script

Hi everyone, im trying to write a script that can call imf_copy from a maya python script, whats the best way to get the path to imf_copy or even just the maya install location to work it out

has anyone done this before?

get the environment variable for mayadir, tough presumambly thet command should be in the path so it does not need to be known. Also sytem should report the maya startup dir which defaults to the bin directory on windows

Has anyone used win32api module in Maya python?

My current Windows python install is python27
My crrent Maya python install appears to be python26

I tryed importing the python27 win32api module and of course I got a big warning... so I was wondering what people were doing to add the win32api module. and if it works within Maya. I am considering adding a python26 lib to accomodate the win32api module...

It would be great to hear back from anyone who has already been down this path...

Yes. Easiest way is to install same ver of python as in maya, same bitness, install win32 for that, then point mayas pythonpath to that pythons site packages (in case of win32 you may need a few of the subfolders).

Bonus you can now easy_instal python packages for maya.

Ps: you dont need to install python, its just easier that way. You can also register win32 manually, or uninstall python 26 after installing it. But no reason for you to have several pythons, i have 6 different versions on my primary windows box
