Can anyone help me?

I just recently got Maya 4.0. I use Windows XP as my OS, and my computer is not on a network. I was wandering if I could still install Maya on my computer and if so how can I configure my computer to install it. Every time I try to install maya it gives me a message that says please go to the control panel to install and configure system components.

Allrighty
if you don't have a network card you need to install a Microsoft Loopback adapter.
go to add new hardware; pick from list; network adapters; select microsoft as the manufacturer; then loopback adapter.
that works for win2k; should suffice for XP as well.
Then maya should run just fine provided licensing is setup correctly.

I missread your above post. So I had a really smart ass comment. hehe
then I reread it.
heres your new procedure
Install TCP/IP and bind it to the network card.
Then assign an IP to it via right click network neighborhood. TCP/IP
give it an IP like 10.1.1.1
you should be set.

I have a network card installed with an ip address already, which I use to connect to the internet. So is there any other way I can configure it to be able to install Maya?

I don't think so. How would I get a local licence? I actually have a student version of Maya 4.0. How would I get a local licence for the one that I have or would I have to find another one. Is there a way that I can install the one that I have on just one computer

If you have a student release and no license yet; use the flex tools to get your hostID.
Or; do an ipconfig /all in a command prompt
You will see something like this

    Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel® 82559 Fast Ethernet LAN on

Motherboard
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-E2-32-E6-04

The one thats marked physical address; give that to A|W
Thats your HostID, or MAC address; or hardware address or whatever people call it these days. If your network card only seems to work while connected to the net; connect to the net and setup licensing then. If none of this works; call alias support; I imagine licensing issues are free.
Number should be in one of them thar books you gots.
Also since your on XP I can recommend disabling the visual themes.

Ok I have it installed but now it will not accept the license that came with it. I gives me a message that No license suitable to run this version of Maya Unlimited 4.0 can be found. Please see the installing guide for troubleshooting details. So what can I do to correct that or can it be corrected?

This can be corrected.
make sure its in the right place; I think node locked guys go in c:flexlm or something. If its not working this would be a good question for the A|W support guys. Might be some squirly thing you have to do on XP to get a license to work.
