Maya is licensed per computer, being locked to hardware (whether a physical dongle, or to the network card ID) so you cannot install with one license to two computers (like most softwares authorize for 1 laptop +1 workstation).
What you can do is use an removable hardware lock (the official dongle or an external USB network interface) to be able to move your license from one computer to the other ... assuming you can only use 1 computer at a time.
For rendering Maya comes with a license that authorize you to install maya on up to 99 computers per license ... but you only have access to the rendering components with command line, no UI ...
For Mental Ray it's again different, MR coming with "satellites" rendering licenses ...
QUOTE
Of course. You think companies that work with Maya buy 100 copies of maya 7000$(or is that 14000, not sure) each?
Yes, commercial companies do buy licenses for each workstation used (or have a number of floating licenses accessible) but when you are called Rythm and Hues or Dreamworks, I suppose you can negociate a discount when buying 100 licenses .... which by the way cost 2000 $ for the complete (7000$ is for unlimited ...).
That's why commercial companies charge a lot of money per hour, (and are fed up having to compete with companies-in-the-garage using illegal software and breaking the market) ....
But if you have bought your license, you should know the price, isn't it
