CalArts is very art oriented, but somewhat conservative in terms of moving into computer graphics. It's a very good character animation school, with an undergrad character animation program that's strong on teaching hand-drawn cartoons, and a graduate experimental animation program that's more open to different looks. They have some computers, but don't do as much with them as some other schools, based on the assumption that you can get trained on computer graphics on the job, after you learn to animate. It's near LA, but far enough up the 405 & 5 that you are separated in a smaller town.
Academy of Art College in SF has a reputation for being more of a business than an academic institution, they accept people on a non-competetive basis and perhaps advertise more about the value of the skills they teach than most graduates really find, but there is a broad range of classes and a lot of equipment to play with, so a bright, talented student who works hard on his reel can do very well there. The Masters students are really getting the same computer graphics courses as the undergrads, so consider the lower-priced second bachelors programs as well as the masters, although the MFA program would give you more time to work on your thesis/reel. it's located right in the middle of San Francisco, with all the good (and bad) things that brings.
