Cannot select all vertices

Dear forum, I have a poly object with some "additional" vertices "outside" its main "shape".
They does not belong to any faces and I want to delete them. But its impossible to select them! Hmm.....

Whats with that??

Any suggestions? I have also tried poly cleanup, since they belong to a poly-object, but nope.

Thx, T.

maya doesnt normally allow floating verts, but you may well have some bung gemeotry. you cant select the pnts, how abotu selecting edges based on length...if these verts are far flung from the mesh, perhaps the edges just arent visible? and this might allow selection. have you tried re-/exproting the mesh? both w maya's format and dxf? can you extract parts of the mesh and these pnts go w it? mm, perhaps you migt be able to post the model so we can have a look at fixing it for ya?

Thx for your answer!

Ill see if I can post the problempiece tomorrow.

There are additional problems too, of the strangest kind.
Nomatter how many lights I put in the scene or which material I apply, the object renders almost black. Just the edges seems to recieve some reasonable lighting.

It seems to me that this too is related to suspect geometry.

Best, T

yep, i suspect your right!

post the piece and we'll put it on the operating table for dissection!

Thanks for your reply again.

I think I have pinned down that the problem has to do with the normals in one way or another.
The objects only absorb light along one axis, so only two sides get lit regardless of lightsources.

But when I perform: Normals/set to face it seems to recieve light all over, only problem is that it becomes un-smooth. Not very nice, and if I do smooth, I get new vertices, and that ruins my whole setup.

So if you or anyone find this familiar, and know of other operations that may help, I would be gratefull.
When I do normals/set to vertex, all becomes black.

Ill try to post a piece of the scene, as soon as I get it over on this machine.

Best regards, T.
