Thank you gmask I know the fundamentals of animation but find the interface for animation to be not very intuitive or user friendly
You serious? For most part i would say that the animation is teh only thing that IS intuitive and user firendly in maya. I mean i can take any well done rig, and put a 8 year lod in front of it and they will get the hang of it in 2 minutes. It does not eman thay do great animations but at least the get the idea instantly,
Teaching them to model takes about a week. So at least in my experience animation is easier. Way easier. And i have a 15, 8 year olds in class to prove this.
But from modelling to animation theres one step called rigging. Now that is in general very tedious unless you have soem pipe to handle it

I tend to be excruciatingly slow and not very good.
Its not you animation is "excruciatingly slow", because the pace of it is often 2-3 seconds per week. Until of course you have so much that you can mx and match,

Hello I am considering a career change to the gaming industry
Is about the last fun industry for just a pure modeller there is.
