Chair

Hi all,
I'm about ready to get the final renders done of this chair but blowed if I can think of a nice lighting setup for it. Any ideas?
Also, is there enough/too much spec on it?
And finally, any critiques?

I would say add a little more spec on the bumps and stuff to make the edges stand out...as far as lighting goes, I really don't know!!! Lata!

your chairs sweet. it looks a little plasticy through, esspecially up close. id give you more but ive been sitting here all day.. nice job

yeah i agree, its pretty sweet, but a little too new for an antique. has that MYST clean look.
(wouldnt it be cool if they sold a product that got stuff clean like in myst?)

Sweet chair! I like the scrollwork on the arms.

I think the specularity is too uniform. Try varying it with a specularity map.

For the nice bump detail on the top of the chair, try cutting down the filter in order to get better detail. Although the chair is aged, the bump maps look too flat and bump mappy. Knocking down the filter will decrease the blurriness of the map.

Great work!

Great model with pretty good texturing. The surface is a little plasticy but if you added a map to break up the specularity and reflection to give a hint of wear and tear it might help resolve the freshly laquered look.

As for lighting there is a shot in the film Night of the Hunter (the Robert Mitchum film) which springs to mind. The lighting is what I would describe as soft film-noir. The chair is backed up to a wall with a strong shadow casting light from high on the right causing the chair to cast a long strong but soft shadow down the wall. this shot's only on screen for a few seconds but it's an absolute beauty. It's a great film for lighting reference anyway , you should see it.

Hey thanx ppl! great feedback and some stuff in here I'll implement. I'll get it done in a couple of days and see what happens

that face in the middle disturbs me......why is it looking at me 0_o

It looks pretty good. Only this, the smooth pillow kind'a thing we really sit on (The white thing) (i don't know the english word sorry) look wierd.

The conjunction between the wood and this pillow is too rigit. Dirt it up a little bit. This is an antique! Can't be that "perfect".

The rest is pretty good
