Chaning default lambert

Hi

I want to change the default lambert shader to white with a bit of transparancy (like in rhino3d). I did it, but I think this is not include under the "save preferences" action. Meaning, if I restart maya it will go back to the same lambert shader. I tried making a script for such to excute it at startup, but it will work. Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure but i suspect thet the purpose of this is to be able to see through your objects. You can achieve this with SHADING=>Shade options=>X-ray
Otherwise just put the mel script in your shelves and execute it yourself when you startup.
I'm sure there is a way to put the script in the "startup" subfolder inside the "scripts" folder but it doesn't seem to work. It must be a formatting issue. If i find out i'll let you know.

Yes x-ray works but is not quite what I will like to have. I'm planing to also change the color of the lambert. I did try making a script of going to the hypershade and changing the lamberts attribute but it doesn't work when I try to excute the script. Thank you for your help..

Daniel

setAttr "lambert1.color" -type double3 1 1 1 ;
setAttr "lambert1.transparency" -type double3 0.5 0.5 0.5 ;

take this text.
and drag it into the shelf
it'll make a new icon that says MEL.
then click on it. It works fine on my machine.

goodluck.

wow perfect. Thank you so much. I didn't know you can change attributes withouth show the actual node. I'l just have to put on my userSetup.mel and should work just fine. Thanks again.

Everything works fine, also I try to excute it in maya's startup and I did as they said (in maya docs). To put the script in "X:awmaya4.0scriptsstartupuserSetup.mel". So everytime maya will excute so will the script. Is not working, any help will be appreciate.

I tried the same thing before.
It didn't work for me either.
good luck.

To my experience the userSetup.mel script must be in %MAYA_APP_DIR%/scripts to get automatically be loaded.
If you define your own script path by setting %MAYA_SCRIPT_PATH% than Maya will only load the script
%MAYA_SCRIPT_PATH%/userSetup.mel.
