I am doodling with a character I meant to create for an animation competition. I never had the time even to start but now I am playing with it - and maybe one day even create the animation.
She is meant to be girlish and cuteish babe flying a gunship/helicopter associated sci-fi vessel. And how original is that... I think at the moment she looks bit too fashion model skinny.
Not much to tell on my part. The helmet design with the metal pipes was meant to kind of resemble hair set up. Now the mass of the helmet seems to bee to high (compared to the original idea) So I'll work on that. The textures are just thrown in as reference.
I am looking for comments especially on anatomy but all critiques are welcome. And you don't have to be nice to me.
Great work man. You seem to have this "art skills" that I lack so bad hehe... Not much to add for anathomy - maybe eyes are too far apart? can't really say. What I would like to se is your facial animation rig. Are you planning clusters for eyes etc. Let me know. Great work Jack
Looking at her it looks like the eyes are a little too far apart and possibly pulled back in a little too much.
The upper lip appears to have a little bit of a hair-lip problem. Possibly you can lower the center part of the upper lip a little. Or you may just try to pull the lower lip a little further out (from the side viewpoint)
about the textures - "The textures are just thrown in as reference." so I'll work with them later. From these images I have worked further with the lips, brought the headphones downwards and something that I can't now recall.
I will try to finish her head some evening and start working on the body.
Sick? I havent heard that phrase in a while. Well I agree, the spec maps need to be tweaked (Read:Intensified) On the helmut, and especially on the girl. Right now it looks like she just has a basic blinn without bump/spec at all. Angelina Jolie lips? I was thinking she looked a bit like Ally McBeal.
Another aside that is purely personal opinion: I like to see models that arent completely symetrical. I dont mean you have to make her look like the kid from mask, but maybe add something like antennae to one side of her helmt, or one earpiece. Maybe some logos.
heh do you read any of the texts? "the textures are for reference only". sure they look like blinn without specs and bumps because thats what they are.
The face asymmetry will be added last before creating the morpg targets. The helmet's part on top is at the moment even more to the side than in these images.
I agree that she looks a bit like Ally. I will post the adjustments and the body shots soon.
She has character and that is what really counts! Very nice transition from sketch to 3D model, It is tha same girl, I never seem to be able to do that.
One small criticism could be that the helmet is too small, it doesnt seem to be enough room for the top of the head, is it for design reasons? Maybe extending it on the sides as well would preserve the look of it.
thanks for the comments. I have actually changed the helmet a bit but I am not sure if it is roomy enough.
I haven't been too much working on this but here is small update. I have modeled the body excluding hands and feet/boots. I have also done morph targets and some rigging. The textures are coming next.
i like the nose in the first (topmost) sketch. in the model it is longer, less "pretty"...i would also say that in the expressions, she looks old due to the lines around the mouth, and it appears there is also a kind of extra amount of flesh around the chin which looks a little saggy and implies age. Under the eyes too you might find expressions where the bags disappear. in the "blowup" one maybe the nose should bend out more?
