Character setup

I am trying to set up my character. In some cases the bones semm to get a "cramp" and go in an extreme position. How can I prevent that?

A bit more detail would be appreciated. Have you noticed that particuliar operations trigger the problem? Is it when you resize your skeleton bones, or when you apply the enveloppe?
Do you use 2D or 3D chains?

Tip: Are all of your assigned objects transformations freezed before you assign?

I build my character out of NURBS and connected the parts with blending. I constructed the skeleton out of 2D chains. To prevent, that the effectors work well I position constrained them to cubes.
The problem is that the effectors position themselves in extreme places in the worldspace. After reseting the bones and refreshing the scene, the bones twist again. I do not know what the problem is.

Did you make your cubes part of a hiearchy? A reminder, if you make geometry party of a skeleton or envelope, you will be prompted to add this kind of behavior. Any chance you have cubes that are getting keyed as children of a parent you didn't expect, or an evelope?If this doesn't help, perhaps you could give a step by step detail on how to reproduce you problem.

Another thing to try: If you are using local envelopes, you need to freeze them first (doesn't matter their position).

You may try the following.

First, make sure that the constraints you applied are UpVector ones.

Second, to make the constraining cubes part of the hierarchy, you have to create a null on top of everything, parent to it your body and your skeleton as one branch, and the cubes as another branch.
