Character's head missing after rendering

Hi,

I've animated a character and everythings looks fine, but after rendering the head is missing (only the hair remains). Possibly a simple problem since I'm still a newbie, but nevertheless quite important for me.
Can it be that it has to do with the specific construction of the character (I'm using the character that also is on the cover of the book ''Inspired 3D character animation', by Kyle Clark)? Or has the problem to do with something else? If someone could help me a bit with my problem, I would really appreciate it!

I don't know if this will help, but, make sure it is not live and that in its attributes 2-sided shading, visibility and all of the neccesary attributes are checked.

I'm also not quite certain what is going on -- several of my students have used and recommended that book to me, so I doubt it's that model... I've had character parts disappear and otherwise stop working when they are referenced in my scene. Could that be the culprit? If you're using render layers, check that you haven't put the head in a non-rendering render layer. Everything in Default Layer will render in Render View, whether you're actually using that layer for Batch Render, so you can get some nasty surprises.
