Check an Entry - get a variable content data type

Hi you all,

I am pretty newbies with mel and I would need your wise help.
I need to perform a check on the user entry in a textFieldGrp.
Atm moment I am casting the result of a query in a variable. My plan was to check the content of the variable to be sure the user enter numeric values and, in case he didnt, shoe a confirmDialog.
There is some way to check the content of the variable?

Of course, if you think there is some better way to perform this "dummy proof" check, please let me know

Oh ok, just one question: Why is the entry a text field? I mean if its a number then why isnt teh field numeric, then you can only type numeric values into it, which is dummy proof.

Besides designing to rely on a confirmDialog is very bad design overall. So you should try to design things so theres no confirmation if possible. One can guide users in other ways than hey you typed the wrong thing. Certaninly a modal input box with must pass modal confirmation is one of the stupidest designs ever deviced,

Actually I was looking for a command or a flag that let me enter just numeric value (int) but I wasn't able to find it, could you please tell me which is the command?
