Cloth is killing me softly

I appreciate the quick respons i got regarding my other post, but i am still having problems with the cloth (garment(s)) falling through the objects with which i wish them to collide. i can make a square collide with a box and be able to animate that around no problem, but if i make anything w/seams, or a double sided garment (i.e. thickness) it falls right through. i can change the collision objects depth/offset and it will affect the cloth, so i know they are in relation to each other somewhat, but i cant find a real reason that the cloth keeps falling through the object. it even seems to be getting a hint of collision/deformation of the object, but no matter how many frame samples i get .... sigh. i am still missing much i guess... can anyone help?

when I first started using cloth I had the same problem, the cloth would just fall through the collision object for really no reason. before you run the first local simulation for a garment leave the depth and offset relatively high
.4-.9 offset, .7-.9 for the depth, then decrease it slowly. after the first local simulation to fit the garment before you increase the tesselation check the fit to surface option in the cloth solver. And my last tip, this seems to work for me. Change your attributes for your cloth or collision object in very small intervals. Also (I'm not sure how important this is) delete the cloth cache after every time your change any attribute, the cloth attributes the collision object attributes, before you run a local simulation.

wow... thanks for the quick reply. i wish i had used chat rooms last semester....

anyway, i'm still at an impass. during SIMULATION... the cloth behaves perfectly normal, it adheres to all the properties i assign it just fine - its during PLAYBACK that it passes through...and like i said before, it still manages to initially function, but after gravity gets its grip on it keeps falling.... aside from the aforementioned surprisingly functional "box w/tablecloth".

another problem is that i cant seem to find the attribute you mentioned... the 'fit to surface'. i am aware of the cpSolver selection and its just not there (or so i think - i've been blind before).... this is bad?

but thanks, and i'll keep on trying until every last one of my trembling hairs has been frantically plucked from my scalp.

Its interesting what you said about simulation being ok, and playback bieng wrong though. YOu are caching your sim. aint you?

BTW - Fit to surface is an attribute of the cpStitcher - just under where you set the cloth resolution.
