Combustion at Home and on the Road?

With Combustion 2.1, Discreet redid the license management so that there was no need for a USB dongle. Discreet Support said that you could have Combustion installed on any machines, as long as they're never on the same network because the license would deactivate if it sees the same license on its network.

I want to use Combustion on my PowerBook for when I'm on the road, and on my PowerMac when I'm in my home studio. Has anyone found an effective way to do this?

At this time, There are but TWO options:

1) Do NOT ever network the two computers...

2) Buy another seat of Combustion...

Combustion does NOT have a "transferable" license like 3ds max... All I can say is that I was told that the license and registration set up for Combustion is more like the one used for Discreet Cleaner, and NOT like the one from 3ds max...

In my humble opinion, I would guess that it probably has a lot to do with the COST of such reg. programs: With the Combustion price drop, Discreet needs to keep their overall products costs down. Remember that 3ds max costs a lot more, and therefore, jusitifies a more secure reg process...

Hi There,

Im interested in the results of your findings on this one. I'm trying to do the same with Shake as well as combustion, but they only offer a single node locked licence, or the option to use the laptop machine as a licence server to activate the desktop machine when I'm at home...

i.e. commotion wont let you network them, and shake insists you do!!

License management is the worst thing I deal with at my home studio...

The information I received about Combustion 2.1 licensing at GDC last Spring was incorrect. You can have multiple copies of Combustion on computers, but if they are ever running concurrently on the same network the serial will get deactivated.

Currently I have Combustion running on my PowerBook for when I'm on the road, and my desktop for when I'm at my studio to crank out batch renders and work with larger source content.

The Rainbow USB dongles are a great solution, but can be costly to maintain. If there was an option to go back to the Rainbow USB dongle on Combustion, I'd probably do it...
