Hey guys, have just finished doing the filming and 3d work for a short uni project and now need to composite everything together.
My main question though is how to composite separate layers from Maya (AVI's/Tiff Sequences, etc) in After Effects, when I bring them in they just overlap each other.
I presume it has something to do with the layer modes/options or something but am not sure.
Any help would be very much appreciated, Cheers in advance.

Kind of a broad question.... if your layers have alpha channels then AE should, by default, read them and show the transparency. Or you can set this in the Interpret Footage dialog box.
If your layers don't have alpha then you got problems and will need to find a way to mask out the areas you want to be transparent...
Layer compositing modes can sometimes be used but normally only to achieve certain effects. Sounds like you need to be using alpha channels but to do this you need to make sure you rendered one from 3D.
