Conditional Expressions?

Hi,

Just giving an eye at Nuke right now and I got stuck when trying to write a conditional expression to a parameter's value. I've found nothing about it in the user guide so, does anyone know what's the syntax to and expression like: if redvalue >0, then do whatever, else do something else.

you can use the long but readble tcl syntax:
if {$myvalue > 0} {do whatever} else {do something else}

or the short version:
$myvalue > 0 ? whatever : something else

If used in a color expression node check out the help button for the correct variables for red/green/blue etc.

the funny part of it is I already tried both ways, but had a typo on my variable name so the expression wouldn't work.

But thanks for your reply, anyway... And by the way, is there any kind of console output or error log or something like that in Nuke? I could have used it to see what my mistake was...

the shell that you start Nuke from (on linux) will become a tcl console that also spits out the feedback you're after.
On windows, there shuld be a DOS console that comes up as with Nuke. You won't be able to write in that one but it will still give you feedback / error messages. Just have a peak under your Nuke window and you should find it.

That's the one I found, but unfortunately it doesn't show up errors made in an expression. I guess it simply doesn't treat it as an error, it just doesn't evaluate.

so what knobs/nodes are you trying to use the expressions with? ususally you can't close the expression panel if there is an error but that's different for expressions in a color expression node. those should definitely spit out errors into the shell so I'd recommend sending in a bug report for that.

There is also a big problem with invalid knob values not causing a node to error out (i.e. putting a letter into a knob that expects a number). Might be a related issue.
