Confused Between Sony & Mac

Hi everyone. I have been a loyal PC user, but I can not seem to use Maya adequately on my current laptop. I am in the midst of buying a new laptop but I don't know which one. My budget is $1200. Currently I'm stuck between a Sony model and a Mac powerbook. The Sony is equipped with more I believe, but everyone raves about powerbooks. So I needed more opinions. here are the two models:

Sony VAIO FS710 Intel Celeron M 1.5GHz / 802.11b/g Wireless / 15.4-Inch WXGA / 512MB DDR2 / 80GB HDD / DVDRW DL / Windows XP Home / Notebook PC = $1000

Apple Powerbook G4 1.5GHz /12 Inch TFT Display /512 MB / 80GB HDD / DVD-RW & CD-RW = $1400

Is it worth paying $400 extra for the powerbook?

I'd say neither and depending on what OS you what to run Maya on you should first review the qualification charts for Maya 7.0 which I'll post below for you. What I would recommend is that you look for a laptop with a large screen display (ie: 16 to 17 inch), dual core (ie: AMD 64 X2), offers DCC graphics (Quadro, FireGL), fast SATA HDD (7200 RPM) and at least 2 GB RAM. Such as Alienware's MJ-12 m7700a. I would also suggest you use an external render farm solution whether on workstations in your LAN or an online rendering service.
