Connecting 2 polygon objects

Ive been trying to connect 2 polygon objects with no luck.
A torso with a head. Both Objects have different numbers of faces, and theyre hi res.When i combined them i used the merge edges tool to connect them but,
when i save the file and try to open it my torso`s gone!
dunno why...
Also i tried to boolean them but after the boolean union operation, they seem to disapear.

Do you guys have any workaround and/or workflow, when you try to combine 2 or more different polygon objects, with different characteristics ?

You need to make sure normals are facing inthe same direction for both the merge edges and boolean operations. Try deleting the history afterwards before saving.
