Contests or just challenges?

Hey Guys,

On the new site I am ramping up to get some prizes for contests. I was thinking we should do challenges as everybody loves them. But I want to start bringing in more students as I mentioned before. Do you guys have any ideas on contests we should do for students that would help the site?

Obviously the other challenges will help build the gallery.

One thought might be to pick a theme like urban legends.

Howabout a contest for best topic...

And why just pctures why not for innovative vays of doing rigs connections, procedurals etc. Its better for students to learn under the hood stuff, more anyway.

I like contests. However, if you have them please give people at least 2 months to work on them. Many people don't have time to start the day a contest is announced. Or they don't notice it at first. By the time they get around to making something the contest is half over.

i like the idea of sort of tutorial challenges...

lets throw some ideas out for the subjects

ed, good point. especially if we want professionals -- id love to see more studio guys with the chance. Im going to try to give away a box with maya, xsi, shake, etc. a big win for anyone.

I'd like to see some scripting or mel challeneges. As in give a problem and have them solve it with a script and the judging could be for the most efficent and effective solution. Challenges should not only be about art but about all the ranges of what goes on here and that would really be different from other sites.
Though some thinking would have to be put in place for somthing like that , might be well worth it .
