Through converting from a windows user to a linux user, I have missed 1 thing mainly..
The ability to copy sourceimages into, say, the gimp without having to save them to disk or /tmp
Is there anyway to copy images from firefox to the gimp?
Thanks,
Evan
A little confused by your question. Are you attempting to find software that you can drag and drop into an editor such as Gimp or something else? Have you taken a look at any of the third party plug-ins available for Gimp or tried using Cinepaint (formally Film Gimp) which is more suited for film work? Maybe my post "Software for 3D/2D Artists, Designers, etc" has something you're interested in which will better help to resolve your issue. I think he means being able to to edit->copy edit->paste of images as you would in Windows between programs...
Copy/paste in Linux is quite bizarre, different programs do it different ways, and even after using Linux for over 6 years I am still sometimes confused as to what is going on with copy/paste sometimes. You can copy with ctrl+c, but also by highlighting text and the middle clicking. Sometimes they are in sync, sometimes not.
It is getting better as with everything. I believe you can copy/paste images (or at least style) from firefox to openoffice apps and everything will transfer nicely. Its a matter of both programs having a nicely developed copy/paste and clipboard functionality.
Most of the time all GNOME apps (or I assume all KDE) apps will work nicely together. It's when you start mixing lots of different apps (especially old ones) that I have had issues with copy/paste getting a bit messed up.
This is all from my own experience. Other user's may have different opinions.
Yeah well its its because windows has had a deecent standard for this form day one while linux hasnt, and now whn its starting to have its not done thhe same way in all progs and distros.
Unofrunately this also meant that windows was a bit hamppered by the fact. Over the years, besides not all windows programs are copypaste avare. Only those that relate to desktop publishing/ audio do this well. Any other data thats neither textual/2d graohic/siound in nature wont copypaste even in widows. Unless you ahve registered a hanlder for this in windows, even then it might be impossible (this is why 3d for example wont copypaste all that well)
