Create Project Using Mel

can i create a customised new project using mel

as in if i want to create a project on (c:) names "test" with "scenes" as it scene file directory and "texture" as its sourceimages directory.
so the project should be named test with folders in it "scenes" & "texture" appropriately

Just so you know

maya projects are in hierarchy the project base is a directory and the projecss are located in and so you get something like procjects/currebtPorject. Now mayas for multiuser platforms, so having the project base in the root of drive makes no sense to maya (its originally a unix application). So defining a project c:\test is a really really bad idea. However its much smarer tahn having roota as a project, because then maya goes completely nuts.

It took me one project to never do it again after i spent 40+ hours negotiating the fact that my project did not have a project base directory. Considering the project took us 180 hour total its quite remarkably much.

So yes your free to put it anywhere you like just as long as the drive isnt the name for your project directory base and the project isnt thi in a folder directly under root of a drive.

Also no root basenamed projects. Maya will accept it but will soon forget you ever said any of the sorts. So by the next time you do anythjng for the file maya just thinks your projects is elsewhere.

You have been warned.

Anyway theres a simple way around this, and thats to define a project folder taht you promote to a drivestatus link in your system. or even easier make bat fikle taht opens a explrer that exclusively sees your project.

Followup question 6 months later -- I am also trying to customize the NewProject window and would like to change the default file types and folder locations. I know that I can go into a workspace.mel file and add extra locations, but deleting locations from that file doesn't not translate into the NewProject window -- ie: we don't need Adobe Illustrator files, so would like to remove that location. I remove it from the workspace.mel file but it still shows up in the Edit Projects window -- so assuming there is some default location where this array of data lives. Would like to modify the default array, essentially. But no idea where I would edit that -- or is there a way to override the Defaults?

BTW -- I don't have a projectSetup.mel file on my system?

The project window is just a suggestion fdor what you might want. If you leave a item blank then no directory or mapping for that type is created. You can edit teh script thet generates the guui item and add anything you like there really.

I have created a workspace that will work and mapped directories to match, so users can load the workspace and will be ready to go. Also found that by leaving unused items blank that directories won't be created. So I can definite add to the item array -- what I can't figure out is how to subtract from the item array -- if I knew the name of the array that holds the items I could write a script that at launch ditches those things (like Adobe Illustrator) that we aren't going to us. Not a big deal, but would be nice to clean up the window. More housekeeping than feature set at this point.
