Creating a field of grass

I'm new to Maya -- but I need a little help --How can I create a field of grass on a nurbs cirlceplanar object -- I just need some grass to add a bit of texture and I need to find a way to do it without painting it on

when you say not painting it on do you mean not painting it directly on the texture or not painting using paintfx brushes? If you want to use paint effect selecxt the surface and go to paint effects menu select make paintable then choose a pre built grass brush from the visor. Adjust to your sensibilities

how do you want to make your texture.

Any way you can use the grass brushes or if you are not so close to the field you can just smply use a texture map .
