Creating hdr. linear?

I understand that 32 bit hdr files are linear by nature. But I don't really understand the whole color management side of it.

If I open RAW images (bracketed images taken with a DSLR, to be merged to create the hdr), do I need to take special care with the color management?

As far as I know the RAW images, when opened in PS, are assigned an sRGB color profile. Do the files need to be linearized before they are merged? Or are they already linear, and just previewing in sRGB? Or am I missing something basic in terms of how PS color management works?

Yes you need to make sure theres no boosting of colors (there usaully is by default) coose a faithfull reproduction mode (or whatever yor brand calls it). Then adjust your whitepoint settings to something neutral. (note yes this mean your image can get entirely orange or blue taht dont look like real, but thats real all right, the real conditiions actually often have a strong color cast its just that we correct it out with our brains, if you want to render in those circumstances you need to have the cast and than later white balance the result)

Well presumably your raw converter understands the color space of the raw file if not then your screwed any ways.
