hey all i need your input. things to consider: -does the smoke look consistent -how are the shadows -does the goo look like its on the wall -do you think this project is too over the top and will close more doors an open -is any of this crap "believable" please disregard the editing for now. project
Pretty cool! (apparently, smoking is bad for you!) I'm not an expert on fx but overall the effect works pretty well. How about some details on what you used to produce the piece, i.e. camera used, software.
-russdapig i used a canon gl1for the live plate, media 100 for digitizing, maya for the crazy stuff, after effects for compositing, premier for editing, and hopefully ill use the media 100 again to do some more editing and to put it to tape. im glad you liked it. the dynamics for this project have taken about 5 years off my life. bacon
I really dont wanna say much about it... your idea works well and the shock factor is pretty intense... but the smoke does seem "wet" I cant describe it any other way looks more like steam I guess... smoke is more powdery... it flows and drifts all over... I am no fx artist so i couldn`t tell you how to make it look better... maybe someone else can?
You know when you`ve been using your computer way too much when you start thinking "Undo.. Undo..." or "Ctrl-Z" when you are writing or drawing on paper - Qt
your right. smoke is not a very good description for it. do you think it integrates well with the scene or do you find the present version distracting?

Yeah but then again, real smoke doesn't flow in trails and attack people. Obviously we're dealing with some sort of smoke creature here, so who's to say he doesn't look real? : )
QtN has a point about the density of the smoke though. As it is now, it looks like steam as opposed to smoke, which I see as darker and billowing more.
bacon I don't see any reason to go back and change anything though, unless you really, REALLY want that to be hyper-realistic smoke. Looks great...add some sound though. : )
Are you looking for smoke or steam? If smoke, is it supposed to look like smoke from cigarette or like that from a car's exhaust? Or is the effect supposed to be more like that of breath condensation in cold weather or fog? Maybe you could have made it look like the water creature in the movie Abyss. How about fire instead? Have you tried making it with pixie dust like the kind Tinker Bell makes with her magic wand?
Maybe the look you have now works fine. Isn't it supposed to be something other than your average household cigarette smoke, fart bomb or burning toast smoke. I suspect that the substance is meant to be some type of evil element, life force with it's own unique characteristics wih respect to behaviour and appearance.
On the other hand, it it's supposed to be just your everyday, household, massive, evil fart bomb that has the usual evil intentions of taking over first your body, next your home and then the world you might want to add just a touch more specular to its shader. I could be off base on this one though. Just my 2 cents. (darn, I could have bought some sgi stock with that!)
