Customizing Maya on Linux

Does anyone know how to change the default white color of Maya's Main Window under Linux?

I used to change this using the SGI's themes (like Gotham). Working in film, the gamma of our monitors are set so high that it hurts my eyes. I can get the 3D background window to medium gray but the rest of Maya remains a glaring white.

There are preferences for the GUI colors of Maya|Windows|Setting/Preferences|colors

I know about the Pref/Colors menu. This changes mostly the items that occur in the viewports but not the gui itself (usually white). I can currently only change that if I change the Theme setting on Windows/SGI boxes. So I found out a way to enforce the Theme's colors on non-KDE apps but Maya does not listen. Slim/Renderman does, however.

Do you mean the text entry boxes and the feedback panel? Yeah I guess you can't set those with the color preferences. Hmmm...
